Four Year Degrees

Undergraduate Honours degrees in Scotland typically last four years, as opposed to three. You can choose to:

• Start in Year 1: º£½ÇÊÓƵ for four years. Successful students could then graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree after three years of study, or a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours after four years of study.

• Direct entry into Year 2: Students taking suitable A Levels can apply for direct entry to Year 2 of an undergraduate degree. Successful students then graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree after two years of study, or a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours after three years.

Abertay RUK Scholarships

Abertay rUK Scholarships are specially designed to support undergraduate students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Find out if you're eligible for an Abertay rUK Scholarship. This could save you up to a year's tuition fees and/or give you an extra £1000/year. This means you'd study for four years and only pay for three.

Tuition Fee Loans

IfÌýyou live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, you can apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of yourÌýtuition fees.ÌýApply viaÌýthe Student Finance Organisation that covers where you live:

The Tuition Fee Loan is not income-assessed, so you can usually borrow up to £9,250. This will cover your tuition fees in full and is paid directly to the University.

There are Undergraduate ScholarshipsÌýandÌýBursaries to help support your studies.

The Student Bursary Fund

The Student Bursary Fund is open to new undergraduate students from England, Northern Ireland and Wales (also known as rUK). To apply, yourÌýhousehold incomeÌýneeds to be less than £34,000 per annum (as assessed byÌý)ÌýandÌýdoes not need to be repaid.Ìý

Student Loans & Grants

Depending on your circumstances,Ìýyou can alsoÌýapply for student loans or grants.

For English students this includesÌý.Ìý

Welsh and Northern Irish students can apply for a Maintenance Grant viaÌýÌýorÌý.ÌýThese areÌýpaid into your bank account every year in three instalments, one payment perÌýterm.ÌýÌý

How much you can borrow depends on the year of your course, where you live, your household income, your age and whether you claim welfare benefits.ÌýThere isÌýextra financial help available if you have a disability, a partner on a low income or dependent children.Ìý

How repaying a Student Loan works

You only start to make repayments on your student loanÌýwhen you start earning over a certain amount known as 'the threshold'. This amount isÌýbefore tax and other deductions. You will pay 9%* of the amount you earn overÌýthat threshold.

The threshold is different depending on which repayment plan you are on, so find out aboutÌý

When to Apply for Funding

WeÌýrecommend that you apply for fundingÌýas soon as you apply for your course.Ìý

You apply for all funding at the same time: student loans, grants, bursaries and tuition fees.ÌýIt takes at least six weeks to process your application soÌýthe earlier the better.ÌýThe GOV.UK site tells you all aboutÌý.Ìý

If you want to ensure your funding is in place before you start University,Ìýwe suggest youÌýapply before 30 June.ÌýÌýYou don’t need a confirmed place, just use your preferred choice and update it if necessary.

Submitting your application asÌýearly as possible means your finances will beÌýsortedÌýbefore you start.ÌýIf your application is later than 30 June, your money may be too.ÌýAnd you don't want to start your course worrying about money.Ìý

Applying early enoughÌýalsoÌýmeans thatÌýyour first tuition fee funding instalment is ready for releaseÌýas soon as youÌýare registered for University.
